Xiaomi has launched two new entry-level smartphones under a series globally called Redmi A2 and Redmi A2+ Plus. Both of these devices look quite identical, but they have some minor changes in terms of specifications. Among these two, the Redmi A2+ Plus is the slightly higher variant.

The price of the Redmi A2+ Plus in Nigeria is ₦47,900 for the base version with 2GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage. The variant with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage costs around ₦51,900.

Design

The Redmi A2+ Plus features a 6.52-inch HD+ display with a waterdrop notch and an aspect ratio of 20:9. The notch houses a 5-megapixel selfie shooter with an f/2.0 aperture. The phone also has a dual-camera setup at the top left corner, which consists of an 8-megapixel main camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

The connectivity options on the phone include dual SIM, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, FM radio, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a micro USB charging port.

Processor, RAM & Storage

It is powered by a MediaTek Helio P36 octa-core processor, paired with a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. It comes with 2GB or 3GB of RAM, which can be extended up to 2GB using internal storage. Redmi A2+ Plus comes in either 32GB or 64GB storage, which is expandable up to 1TB via a dedicated microSD card slot.

Software, Battery & Fingerprint Scanner

On the software side of things, it runs on Android 12 Go Edition, and it is equipped with a massive 5000mAh battery that supports 10-watt charging. The fingerprint scanner is rear-mounted and it unlocks the phone, but not that fast.

Verdict

There is not much thing to know about the Redmi A2+, other than the fact that it is a phone for average users, those who don’t actually care much about gaming and other demanding tasks. Also, you are not buying this device to take fine pictures. I don’t think anybody would be expecting more than what Xiaomi offered here, at this price point.
