iPhone 14 Pro Max Price In South Africa & Specifications

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is the most expensive and the highest-tier offering in the new iPhone lineup. It came with so many new features that were not in the previous model, and a little bit of upgrade in the build quality.

Its premium design is one thing I love about this device, Apple did a very nice Job I must confess. It might be a little bit pricy, of course, it is a flagship device, but you are going to get the value of your money when you purchase this device.

Design & Build Quality

The iPhone 14 Pro Max has a faster chipset inside compared to the previous model, which is one of the significant upgrades. The 48MP main camera on the back now takes clearer pictures, and even the front camera takes selfies with good autofocus.

It’s available in 3 colours, Space Black, Silver, Gold, and Deep Purple. You can choose the colour that suits your taste but I would advise you to get the space black colour.

It has IP68-rated protection against dust and water, you can submerge this device in a water depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max comes with a 6.7inches Super Retina XDR OLED display, with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a pixel density of 460 PPI. Apple introduced the 120Hz refresh rate in the previous model and retained it in this one, nothing has changed in this aspect.

The high refresh rate gives you smooth scrolling and swiping. the refresh rate is adaptive, so it can come down to as low as 10Hz to save energy.

The brightness has also improved, you can get up to 1760 nits of peak brightness in auto mode when in a bright sun. You can use this device even while outside in the sun, without using your hand to give the screen a dark shield.

The exciting new thing about this display is the pill cutout that Apple calls the dynamic island. It looks like a black area where the front camera and Face ID are placed, but it’s also connected to the screen’s design.

When you open certain apps like music, it stretches out to show extra information. It can also display important messages from the system, like when the device is charging. Another notable feature of this device is the always-on-display thats keeps the lock screen active.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max has two stereo speakers for audio. The top speaker is the earpiece. In our test, they were quite loud and the sound was great. The voices were clear, the high notes were bright, and the bass was strong.

Processor & Performance

Powering the iPhone 14 Pro Max is a new chipset, the Apple A16 Bionic. It has CPU cores that use less energy, as well as more memory bandwidth for the GPU. The neural engine has also been upgraded alongside the ISP for photography, and also we got a new display engine.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max shows clear improvement compared to last year’s A15 Bionic in terms of CPU performance. It has the highest CPU scores among all devices. The GPU performance is similar to what we’ve seen before, which is still very good. The phone also manages heat well, staying stable during our demanding tests.

Battery Life & Charging

The iPhone 14 Pro Max has a battery with a capacity of 4,323mAh, which is about the same size as last year’s model. The battery life is also quite similar, although the time on screen has improved a little.

This is one of the longest-lasting batteries you can get in an iPhone. There was no charger in the box, but we tested how fast it charges using Apple’s 21W adapter. With this adapter, we were able to charge the iPhone 14 Pro Max from 0 to 48% in just 30 minutes. It’s not exceptionally fast, but it’s decent. The phone also supports wireless charging.

Camera & Video Recording

The iPhone 14 Pro Max cameras are similar to the Pro model. It has a new 48MP that can take clear photos even in low light conditions. This camera also has improved image stabilization.

The ultrawide camera has 12 megapixels and can take wider photos. It also has a 3x telephoto camera that can take pictures from far away.

Apple also introduced OIS and autofocus to the front-facing camera. The 12-megapixel selfies are great. The autofocus works well, and photos are nicely detailed with well-contained noise, a wide dynamic range, and accurate colours.

You can record 4K video in up to 60 FPS with the selfie camera and all three rear cameras.

What Processor Does The iPhone 14 Pro Max Have?

The iPhone 14 Pro Max has an A16 Bionic chip. It is a 6-core CPU with 2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, a 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine. Apple said that the A16 Bionic is 40% faster than the A15 Bionic chip in the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Is the iPhone 14 Pro Max Water-Resistant?

Yes, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is water-resistant. It has an IP68 rating, which means it can withstand being submerged in water up to 6 meters (19.7 feet) for up to 30 minutes.

In my opinion, there was no major upgrade from Apple, when you compare the iPhone 14 pro max to the younger brother but I like the brighter screen, the 2-times lossless zoom, and the autofocus on the front camera. The dynamic Island might seem a bit like a trick, but it’s still something special and different.

If you have the money to buy this device, I will advise you to either go for the 512GB or the highest version with 1TB. Let me know what you think about this device in the comment section.
